We are moving towards the usage of uncrewed survey vessels

Deepers love working in the waters, especially in the coastal waters. To operate in these unique waters, we need diversity in our fleet. For every kind of shallow water survey project, there is a matching Deep survey vessel. Fitted with the highest standard survey equipment. Usually this was done with fully crewed survey vessels. But times are changing! At Deep we are moving towards the usage of uncrewed survey vessels.

Why?

We thrive towards a sustainable future. A future with less people in harsh sea environment. A future where we reduce our carbon footprint. A future where we need fewer or even zero fossil fuel and make less road kilometers of personnel from and to the port.

How?

How we’re making this future our reality? Instead of using fully crewed vessels, we have half crewed vessels. These vessels head to sea with only the nautical crew onboard. The survey location is in our control room in Amsterdam, thereby done remotely by our surveyor(s). And we’re very proud of our latest uncrewed survey vessel (USV): the Deep Lorean USV. All the operations on board of this vessel are done remotely. It can be supervised and operated from the control room in our office, where the surveyor(s) collect their valuable survey data. Another great asset of the Deep Lorean is her ability to be moved by either electricity or biodiesel in the Nature 2000 areas. That’s the kind of future we’re looking forward to at Deep.
