Depth measurements around houseboats at Steigereiland (Deep Green)

Project summary

Steigereiland is the first island of IJburg in Amsterdam and is characterized by the many houseboats. Naturally, the intention is for these boats to stay afloat and not touch the bottom. Therefore, it is very important to monitor the depth of the bottom around the houseboats. To collect the data for monitoring, the municipality of Amsterdam enlisted the help of Deep Green.

COMPARISON OF DATA TO VISUALIZE CHANGES

We have already collected data in the waters around Steigereiland in 2021. To monitor the progress of sedimentation in the soil, we recently conducted a survey again. This allowed the client to compare the data and visualize the changes.

ELECTRIC USV DEEP LOTUS: AGILE, SMALL AND SILENT

We collected the data by means of a multibeam survey. To get a good impression of the situation, we also had to sail between the houseboats. With its small size and maneuverability, the Deep Lotus was the vessel of choice for this job. Because this USV is electric, emissions and noise pollution for local residents were limited. The Deep Lotus was equipped with the Ping 3DSS-iDX, a multibeam echosounder suitable for shallow waters. In areas that were more difficult to reach, we took additional measurements with a handheld GPS land surveying device. By combining land surveying data and hydrography data in one dataset, we were able to map the entire area.
