UXO Survey Princess Elisabeth Island

Project summary
PEI (Princess Elisabeth Island) is the world’s first artificial energy island, located off the coast of Zeebrugge, Belgium. To enable the safe installation of submarine power cables for PEI, Boskalis carries out an extensive unexploded ordnance (UXO) investigation and clearance project. And Deep was involved.
THREE VESSELS ON THE JOB
Deep’s objective in this project was to obtain accurate bathymetric data and to identify (pUXO) objects, seabed morphology, and geological features that could influence or constrain cable installation. Using three vessels, Miranda, Deep Seapal, and Deep Locus, we surveyed the 55-kilometre cable route in a highly challenging environment, characterized by sand dunes up to 24 metres high and sand ripples along the entire route.

DELIVERING CRITICAL INPUT
We collected high-resolution MBES bathymetry, SSS seabed imagery, and magnetic seabed data using our Iron Lady UXO ROTVs over the AC cables from the nearshore area to the energy island. The data we collected provided our client with critical input for UXO identification and clearance (ID&C) operations.

UXO survey along the cable route for the IJmuiden Ver windfarms
UXO survey along the proposed cable route for the IJmuiden Ver windfarms. Prior to any cable installation the route needs to be examined for potential unexploded ordnance that could hinder and endanger the cable installation works.

Øresund 400 kV Cable Crossing
Energinet is preparing the replacement of the existing cable system 400 kV power cables and an installation of a new cable system. Together with Ramboll, Deeps surveying team collected data along the cable route.
